Giants rookie Arvell Reese takes modest approach to first big paycheck

New York Giants first-round pick Arvell Reese is taking a measured approach to his sudden wealth after signing his rookie contract.

Selected fifth overall out of Ohio State, the 20-year-old linebacker inked a four-year deal that includes $47.8 million in fully guaranteed money. Rather than rushing into major purchases, Reese has kept his priorities centered on football.

Reese also won’t being spending big, even though his deal includes $47.8 million guaranteed. “I just signed it and then went to the hotel and then just got ready for the practice the next day,” Reese said. “I don’t really got [anything] to buy right now. I already got everything. I got a car and an apartment. So, I’m good right now.”

The former Buckeye’s restrained mindset stands out among a class of high draft picks navigating their first professional paychecks. With housing and transportation already secured, Reese has chosen not to make immediate lifestyle changes. His focus remains on preparing for practices and adapting to the NFL level.

For a player expected to contribute early in the Giants’ defense, that discipline could prove valuable. By avoiding unnecessary spending, Reese has positioned himself to concentrate fully on the field rather than material distractions as he begins his professional career in New York.

Moreover, Reese sets himself up for the future — an area many NFL athletes have struggled.
