Flag football: Four from Owego among 12 all-state picks from Section 4

Four players from state runner-up Owego Free Academy, including two first-team selections, have been named all-state for the 2025 girls flag football season.

Owego junior quarterback Kylie Grippen was joined on the Class C first team by teammate Ashlyn Dalton, a sophomore defensive pick.

Also earning all-state honors from Owego were second-team offensive selection Olivia Dodge and second-team defensive pick Bella Silvestri. Both were seniors.

Grippen completed 245 of 348 passes for 2,576 yards, 49 touchdowns and 36 extra points, with just two interceptions. She missed the second half of the regular season but returned for the postseason after suffering a torn ACL/meniscus.

Dalton’s defensive contributions included 45 tackles, 19 sacks and 41 quarterback pressures. She had 60 carries for 689 yards and nine touchdowns, with 66 catches for 870 yards and 14 touchdowns. She filled in at quarterback when Grippen got hurt and completed 64 of 96 passes for 514 yards and six touchdowns.

Owego lost to Pioneer, 13-12, in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C final.

All-state teams were selected by the New York State Sports Writers Association and edited by John Moriello, president of the NYSSWA.

Players of the Year were Samantha Heyman of Half Hollow Hills in Class A, co-winners Eve Girardi of Tappan Zee and Olivia Moynihan of Sayville in Class B, and co-winners Jayden Leederman and Ellie Edwards of Pioneer in Class C.

Twelve players from Section 4 were named all-state, with five others receiving honorable mention.

Section 4 Class A Selections

Third-team defense: Madi Jones, Elmira, senior.

Honorable mention: Ella Devlin, Elmira, sophomore; Carmen Esposito, Ithaca, senior.

Section 4 Class B Selections

Second-team defense: Jade Taylor, Union-Endicott, senior.

Third-team offense: Remi Campbell, Binghamton, junior.

Fourth-team offense: Victoria Elliott, Union-Endicott, sophomore and Sydney Blunt, Horseheads, junior.

Honorable mention: Breanna Butler, Maine-Endwell, freshman.

Other Section 4 Class C Selections

Second-team defense: Gracie Wallace, Susquehanna Valley, junior.

Third-team offense: Addison Westbrook, Waverly, senior.

Third-team defense: Audra Doll, Greene, senior.

Honorable mention: Danika Smith, Windsor, sophomore; Amanat Dhillon, Susquehanna Valley, junior.
