A pod of dolphins was spotted off the coast of New York near Coney Island on Wednesday, according to NYC Water.
Marine unit captures sighting
NYC Water said its Marine Unit observed the group of dolphins in the area, calling the sighting a sign of improving water quality in the harbor.
Officials said New York Harbor is now considered the cleanest it has been in more than 150 years.
Dolphins also seen in East River earlier this year
In March, dolphins were also spotted swimming in the East River, a waterway that was heavily polluted for decades before parts of it were designated a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Superfund site in 2011.
Officials have pointed to improving sightings of marine life as evidence of ongoing cleanup and restoration efforts.
