Miami is running out of defensive backs against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.
The Dolphins’ already thin secondary took back-to-back hits on consecutive plays in the red zone during the second quarter of Thursday Night Football.
Cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. went down first. On third-and-2 with 8:30 left in the half, the rookie fifth-round pick was beaten by Tyrell Shavers for a 17-yard gain. Marshall stayed on the turf near the sideline after the play and was taken into the blue medical tent. He was initially ruled questionable to return with a hamstring injury but was downgraded to out at halftime.
Marshall, who got the start at nickel corner, had been targeted by Allen throughout the first half. He was turned around on a 20-yard touchdown to tight end Dalton Kincaid on Buffalo’s opening drive. Miami subbed in Ethan Bonner for his first snaps of the season.
On the next play, cornerback Jack Jones collided with Kincaid on a crossing route. Both players crashed into each other with their left shoulder and Jones came out of the game.
Miami is already playing without cornerback Storm Duck (ankle) and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (calf). Cornerback Cam Smith is on the non-football injury list.
Cornerbacks Kader Kohou (knee) and Artie Burns (knee) were placed on injured reserve during training camp.
Cornerback JuJu Brents was inactive for the game.
