A delivery driver died Monday night after being pinned by his own van while making a package delivery at a home in Wayne County, New York, according to New York State Police.
Van rolled while driver unloaded packages
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 6, on Eades Road in the town of Wolcott, New York.
State Police said the driver had parked a 2025 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van in a residential driveway and got out to retrieve packages from the cargo area.
Investigators said the van then began rolling forward toward the house.
Witnesses yelled to warn the driver, who tried to stop the moving vehicle before it struck the residence. Troopers said he lost his footing and became pinned between the van and a porch support, suffering severe head injuries.
Bystanders tried to help
People at the scene moved the van off the driver and began rendering aid until emergency responders arrived.
The driver was taken by ambulance to Upstate University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
State Police did not immediately release the victim’s name.
Investigation continues
The residence sustained minor damage in the incident.
New York State Police continue to investigate what caused the van to roll.
