As things currently stand, the New York Jets’ quarterback room is clear.
Veteran Geno Smith will lead the way. Behind him is fourth-round rookie Cade Klubnik.
Instead of Klubnik, a veteran backup QB could understandably be signed as well. Per ESPN, the Jets want to get a look at Klubnik as of now.
Is that the smart way for the Jets to go? It is one route the team is reportedly going to explore first and foremost.
ESPN reported:
“They [the Jets] are going to hold off on the older veteran guy as the backup and let these guys fight it out, and they are really high on Cade Klubnik,” said Rich Cimini reported. “They are going to give him a runway here.”
So far, Klubnik has only taken on rookie minicamp. Spring practices with veterans will unfold in New York this upcoming week but initial reviews were positive.
That will be a bigger test for the rookie and give the Jets some clarity on their decision regarding the QB2 position.
Jets Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2026 offseason.
