The proposed $144.2 million 2025-26 Corning-Painted Post School District budget was passed by voters June 17, according to C-PP spokesperson William Cameron.
The revised budget received 2,128 votes in favor, with 1,537 voters opposed.
Tax rates will slightly decrease under the revised 2025-26 budget, which received a boost from a $1.8 million grant from Corning Inc. after the first budget proposal was handily rejected by voters on May 20 with 2,860 “no” votes and 1,927 votes in favor.
The $144,234,430 spending plan approved Tuesday includes a reduction of about $2.6 million from the initial $146.8 budget that exceeded the state tax cap and consequently required a 60% supermajority to pass.
“We are incredibly grateful to our community for its support of the CPP School Budget,” said Michelle Caulfield, C-PP superintendent of schools. “Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to listen, learn and come back to you with a budget you could support. Your ‘YES’ vote is a powerful investment in our students, teachers, staff and the future of our schools.”
Caulfield said C-PP will continue to provide high-quality education and the essential programs and resources the district’s children need to be successful.
“Together, we are building stronger schools and a stronger community,” Caulfield said. “Thank you!”
The revised budget, which includes a 2.97% increase to the levy, does not exceed the state tax cap and only needed more than 50% of the vote to be adopted.
Tax rates will decrease under the revised spending plan, from $20.32 in the 2024-25 spending plan to $19.93 per $1,000 of assessed value. Under the proposal, a home assessed at $100,000 would pay $1,933 annually, a monthly decrease of $3.25.
Support for the Southeast Steuben County Library also passed, 2,177-1,486.
Elsewhere in Steuben County, Prattsburgh Central School District voters approved of the revised budget, 180-94. The vote on the original spending plan ended tied at 111-111 in May.
The Horseheads budget also passed on the second attempt Tuesday.
