Will the New York Giants be able to get the most out of running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. next season while sharing snaps with Cam Skattebo?
Tracy is slated to serve as the RB2 in New York next season behind Skattebo, who is on track to start in Week 1. Skattebo is a prototypical power back who will provide the Giants with physicality and significant yards after contact.
Tracy, by contrast, is more of a finesse back. He possesses the ability to maximize his yards per carry while also contributing meaningfully in the passing game. The Indiana native has recorded over 1,000 scrimmage yards in each of his first two NFL seasons with the Giants (2024 and 2025) and has produced at least 284 receiving yards in each of those campaigns.
Tracy is unlikely to get many calls near the goal line, as the Giants often turned to Devin Singletary in scoring situations last season and now have Skattebo, whose ability to run over defenders should put New York in prime position to reach the end zone.
Tracy could see increased usage in play-action opportunities, which would serve quarterback Jaxson Dart well when plays break down. Tracy provides a reliable receiving option in short and intermediate areas to help sustain drives. The Purdue product is also expected to earn plenty of snaps in pass-heavy situations, where screen passes and other intermediate routes could give the Giants another dependable target for first downs.
Both Tracy and Skattebo should have ample opportunities to stay involved in the ground game next season. For Tracy, the number of snaps he receives will be the biggest factor in his production.
While Skattebo excels with his powerful running style, Tracy will earn opportunities in passing situations thanks to his elusiveness and versatility as the ideal change-of-pace complement.
