The Buffalo Bills have a speedy wide receiver on speed dial.
Buffalo signed Deon Cain for the third time in the past year, with four Bills wide receivers missing practice on Monday.
The 6-foot-2, 202-pounder will get another opportunity with Elijah Moore, Curtis Samuel, Tyrell Shavers, and Kaden Prather all sidelined by injuries at training camp.
Shavers was carted off the field with an ankle injury on Sunday but head coach Sean McDermott said the second-year wideout is in “pretty good shape” and will “be back in a couple of days if everything goes as planned.”
Samuel and Prather are sidelined with hamstring injuries, and Moore didn’t participate due to what McDermott categorized as “general soreness.”
In June, Bleacher Report named Cain as one of five UFL players who deserve a chance in the NFL.
Deon Cain enters third stint with Bills
All three times Cain, 28, has signed with the Bills were directly after injuries to other wide receivers. He’s a vertical threat with size and 4.43 speed.
Cain initially joined Buffalo on Aug. 13, 2024 after Chase Claypool was released with an injury settlement. Cain had three receptions for 28 yards in the Bills’ preseason finale but was released on Aug. 27.
Buffalo brought him back to the practice squad on Oct. 31 after Keon Coleman suffered a wrist injury in Week 9. Cain was waived on Dec. 3.
Cain won the College Football National Championship with Clemson in 2017 and finished his career tied for fourth-most receptions in Tigers history. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts but tore his ACL in his first preseason game. He has bounced around the league with the Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles, but has had success in minor league football.
Cain has won two professional titles in spring football, one in the USFL and one in the UFL. He was named the USFL championship game MVP in July 2023 with three touchdowns to lead the Birmingham Stallions to a title. After being released by the Bills in December, he joined the Stallions for the 2025 season, with 29 receptions for 514 yards and six touchdowns in nine games to earn All-UHFL honors.
