In the brief history of girls wrestling in New York, Horseheads has vaulted to the upper echelon of Section 4 programs.
The Blue Raiders’ extensive team success was accompanied this season by the top finish for the program in the two-season history of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship tournament.

That came courtesy of Ellisa Bly, a sophomore who placed fourth at 235 pounds at the state tournament in Albany.
Bly’s efforts have led her to be named the Elmira Star-Gazette/Corning Leader Girls Wrestler of the Year for the 2025-26 season.
Bly posted a 39-5 record based on the data base compiled by cnywrestling.com.
Highlights included titles at the Penfield Girls Blizzard Brawl, the Dorothy Palma Invitational, the Section 4 championships, and the Southern Tier Athletic Conference tournament.
She placed third at the Southern Tier Memorial Girls Tournament, which brought in top wrestlers from inside and outside of New York.
Bly won four of her six matches at the single-division state tournament, with each victory coming by pin. She lost by fall to Shaker’s Ava Gregg in the third-place match. Bly’s other loss there came to state runner-up Peyton Mullin of Dundee.
