Binghamton PD requests no unnecessary travel July 3 following severe thunderstorm

The Binghamton Police Department is asking residents not to travel unnecessarily on July 3 following the storm that passed through the area.

The storm passed through the area and, according to a press release issued by the City of Binghamton Police Department, caused trees and power lines to fall on several streets throughout the city.

“The Binghamton Police Department, the Binghamton Fire Department, Department of Public Works, and the City Parks Department are all currently working on opening the roadways,” said the department.

Statement from Broome County Executive Jason Garnar

“Following this storm, there are downed trees and power lines throughout Broome County. Stay clear of these hazards and never go near downed wires.

“At this time, 911 landline service is unavailable. If you have a life-threatening emergency, use a cell phone to call 911.

“To report power outages, call NYSEG at 1-800-572-1131.

“Otsiningo Park will be closed for the weekend while crews work to clean up storm damage. Thank you for your patience and caution as crews restore service and clear debris. Stay alert and stay safe.”

All CCE Broome County facilities closed due to storm damage

All buildings and grounds at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County located at 840 Upper Front St. in Binghamton are closed until further notice due to extensive damage caused by the storm.

This includes the main office, Taste NY building, Cutler Botanic Garden, and the Broome County Regional Farmers Market.

“Safety remains our top priority as we assess the damage and begin the cleanup process, which will continue throughout the weekend and into next week,” stated CCE Broome.

“As a result, the Broome County Regional Farmers Market will remain closed this Saturday, July 5. We appreciate the community’s understanding and support during this time.”
