The Buffalo Bills made a flurry of roster moves this week. They’ll have three wide receivers who weren’t on the field a week ago as they try to revive a sluggish passing attack.
Buffalo signed Mecole Hardman to the active roster Saturday, elevated Gabe Davis from the practice squad, and Joshua Palmer will return from injury after missing three games. The reshuffled receiver room comes as the Bills (6-3) continue searching for a consistent deep threat and more separation downfield.
Buffalo hosts the the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-3) at 1 p.m. Sunday at Highmark Stadium.
Hardman, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, was signed to the practice squad on Tuesday and signed to the 53-man roster Saturday. The 27-year-old brings the vertical speed and return ability Buffalo has lacked all season. He’s expected to take over kick-return duties after the Bills released Brandon Codrington on Saturday.
Davis, back for a second stint in Buffalo, spent the first eight weeks on practice-squad injured reserve recovering from a torn meniscus suffered in his lone season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had at least 500 receiving yards and six touchdowns in each of his first four seasons with the Bills and gives Josh Allen another veteran option.
Palmer practiced fully this week will play for the first time since Week 7. Sean McDermott said Palmer “gives us speed on the field,” something the offense has struggled to generate.
Buffalo has dropped three of its last five games and has was shut out through the first three quarters in last week’s loss to the Miami Dolphins. Opposing defenses have crowded the line of scrimmage, daring the Bills to beat them over the top, something they’ve struggled to do.
Tight end Dalton Kincaid, who leads the Bills with four touchdown catches, is out with a hamstring injury.
Bills rookies activated, elevated
The Bills activated rookie defensive tackle T.J. Sanders from injured reserve. The second-round pick missed more than a month with a knee injury but practiced fully all week.
Buffalo elevated undrafted rookie tight end Keleki Latu for depth behind Dawson Knox and Jackson Hawes with Kincaid out.
