Bard cross country will compete in five invitationals ahead of Liberty League meet

Bard College cross country will run in five invitational races ahead of competing in the annual Liberty League championships.

The Raptors will compete at fellow Liberty member Vassar College twice in the opening weeks – Aug. 29 in the Vassar Season Starter and Sept. 13 in the Ron Stonitsch Invitational. In 2024, Bard’s two teams finished sixth at the Season Starter, while the men were tenth and the women sixth at the Stonitsch race.

Bard will host its Fred Pavlich Invitational, at Montgomery Place, on Sept. 20 – the Bard women placed fourth and the men fielded an incomplete team.

The Raptors will also compete at Lehigh University’s highly popular Paul Short Run on Oct. 3 and the Western New England University Invite in Springfield, Mass., on Oct. 18.

Saint Lawrence University, in upstate Canton, will host the Liberty League meet on Nov. 1. In 2024, the Bard women finished ninth, led by freshman Emma St. Peter in 53rd place; the Bard men were also ninth, led by sophomore Able Bloodgood in 55th place.

The men’s team last competed at the NCAA Mideast Regional in Nov. 2023, placing 21st. The women’s team last sent runners to the NCAA Atlantic Regional in 2013.

Former Purdue University standout Brody Smith is the Bard head coach – hired in February, he led the Raptors’ track and field program in the spring, and this will be his first cross country campaign.
