Many of the Baltimore Ravens players ran to the locker room for halftime. But it wasn’t halftime yet.
“Baltimore, hold on!”
Head referee John Hussey’s words rang out as some Ravens were in the tunnel.
Replay review put one second back on the clock, and Matt Prater drilled a 43-yard field goal as time officially expired in the second quarter, cutting Buffalo’s deficit to 20-13 in Sunday night’s opener at Highmark Stadium.
Baltimore had extended its lead to 20-10 with a field goal of its own with 31 seconds left in the half. Josh Allen responded with a pair of big completions, a 26-yarder to Khalil Shakir and a 22-yarder to Dalton Kincaid, to get Buffalo into field-goal range.
The clock appeared to run out on Kincaid’s catch near the sideline, but Allen was adamant there was still time remaining. Replay showed the tight end landed out of bounds with one second left, leading Hussey to halt the Ravens’ early exit with his announcement.
That gave Prater, playing in his first game with the Bills, and swing momentum going into halftime.
