Four motorcyclists were injured Saturday afternoon in a serious crash on the New York State Thruway westbound between the Henrietta and LeRoy exits, according to the Henrietta Fire District.
Emergency crews were called to the scene near mile marker 369 shortly before 3 p.m. The crash involved an SUV towing a boat and two motorcycles carrying a total of four riders.
Riders trapped beneath boat
Fire officials said two of the motorcycle riders became trapped beneath the boat following the collision.
Henrietta Fire District crews, CHS Mobile Integrated Healthcare and the New York State Police responded to the scene.
All four riders were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with moderate to serious injuries, officials said.
Bystanders praised for helping
The Henrietta Fire District thanked bystanders who stopped to assist before emergency responders arrived.
“Their actions made a difference,” the department said in a statement.
Investigation continues
The New York State Police are investigating the crash.
The left lane of the Thruway was initially closed but has since reopened. Authorities urged drivers to use caution and remain aware of motorcycles on the road as summer travel increases.
