3 standout players from start of New York Jets OTAs

The New York Jets begin their march toward the 2026 NFL season this week.

It’s only spring practices, but OTAs is the start all 32 NFL teams and their Super Bowl dreams each season.

For the Jets, the bar might be a little lower than that. Regardless, Gang Green has made numerous changes this offseason. It has inspired some hope for 2026… or at least some curiosity.

With spring practices underway for the first time this offseason, here were three players that reportedly stood out at Jets OTAs:

QBs Geno Smith, Cade Klubnik

Naturally there are always eyes on the quarterback room. For the Jets, the return of Geno Smith has the most attention. But after making some noise during rookie minicamp, Cade Klubnik has some interest around him as well.

Smith reportedly had an interception dropped during team drills but it was reportedly a very windy practice day as well. Meanwhile, Klubnik was perfect:

K Younghoe Koo

Only recently just signed, Younghoe Koo appears to be the (very) early frontrunner to kick for the Jets in 2026. Again, there is a long way to go, but here are some Thursday numbers:

TE Jelani Woods

Claimed off waivers last season, Jelani Woods made an impression with Klubnik throwing him the ball according to reports. The two evidently connected multiple times during team drills.

Worth noting: First-round rookie Kenyon Sadiq did not practice because of injury.
