Weekend storm brings almost 2 inches of rain to Iowa. See the totals.

It’s been a bit chilly since storms swept through Iowa for the Juneteenth weekend. The mild weather will continue into the week of June 22.

It’s time to enjoy the crisp breeze before the summer humidity sets in again.

How much rain did Des Moines get?

Des Moines saw 1.11 inches over the weekend from 7 a.m. June 19 to 7 a.m. June 22. Most of that rain — 0.82 inches — fell between June 21 and 22.

Less rain fell in Ames during that same time, with 0.73 inches of rain recorded. Ankeny saw even less with only 0.40 inches.

Where were the highest Iowa rainfall totals?

Eastern Iowa saw the highest rainfall totals, with the Quad Cities nearing 2 inches. Some of the lightest rain fell in northwest Iowa, and parts of northern Iowa stayed dry. These areas are also where the worst drought conditions are persisting.

What is the forecast for Des Moines?

The next chance for showers and thunderstorms may begin late in the afternoon on Tuesday, June 23, into Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. A severe isolated storm is possible.

The week of Monday, June 22 will see slightly below-average temperatures, with most of the week averaging highs between the 70s to lower 80s.
