Vote for the Register male Athlete of the Week for May 24-30

The week of May 24-30 saw the 2026 IHSAA boys spring state golf meets take place for Classes 3A, 2A and 1A.

The 2026 boys state tennis singles and doubles tournaments in both Classes 1A and 2A also took place during the week. The IHSAA boys state soccer tournament field was also set in all four classes and it was a busy week for high school baseball programs from across the Des Moines metro area.

There were several standout individual performances by male high school athletes from the metro area during the week.

Here are the Des Moines Register’s male Athlete of the Week candidates from the Des Moines metro area for the week of May 24-30. DesMoinesRegister.com readers vote to determine the winners, who will be announced at the end of the week.

Tate Duax, Ankeny Centennial

Duax powered the Class 4A No. 1 Ankeny Centennial boys soccer team to an 8-0 victory over Waterloo West in the 4A substate finals on May 29 at Ankeny.

Duax had a hand in five goals for the Jaguars. He put up a hat-trick with three goals and added two assists.

Myles Matzen, North Polk

Matzen helped the North Polk boys golf team place third at the 3A boys state golf meet held May 26-27 at the Gates Park Golf Course in Waterloo.

The Comet freshman shot a 7 over 151 over 36 holes to tie for 12th individually.

Kasongo Lunganga, Des Moines Roosevelt

Lungana helped the Des Moines Roosevelt boys soccer team get past Dowling Catholic in the 4A Substate 7 final by a 2-0 score on May 29 at Des Moines.

Lungana scored one goal on three shots to help the Roughriders advance to state.

Luke Jordan, Grand View Christian

Jordan threw a strong game for the Grand View Christian baseball team during a 5-1 victory over Prairie City-Monroe on May 29 at Prairie City.

Jordan went the distance and he gave up just one unearned run on three hits in seven innings. He finished the game with 13 strikeouts and just two walks.

Ethan Kanne, Indianola

Kanne helped power the Indianola boys soccer team into the state tournament with a 5-0 victory over Lewis Central in the 3A Substate 8 final on May 29 at Council Bluffs.

Kanne posted a hat-trick to help the Indians advance to state. He netted three goals on the night.
