The week of May 24-30 saw the 2026 IGHSAU girls state golf meets take place for all four classes.
Girls soccer wrapped up its regular season and there were several thrilling softball games featuring teams from the Des Moines metro area during the week.
There were several standout individual performances by female high school athletes from the metro area during the week.
Here are the Des Moines Register’s female Athlete of the Week candidates from the Des Moines metro area for the week of May 24-30. DesMoinesRegister.com readers vote to determine the winners, who will be announced at the end of the week.
Lauren Hagedorn, ADM
Hagedorn came up big offensively for the Class 4A No. 1 Adel-Desoto-Minburn team during a 4-1 victory at Ankeny to open the season on May 26.
Hagedorn went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs in the win. She also threw five innings of no-hit ball with four strikeouts during an 8-0 win over I-35 at Winterset on May 30.
Hadley Michael, Norwalk
Michael was overpowering in the circle for the 4A No. 7 Norwalk softball team during a 3-0 victory over Newton on May 27 at Newton.
Michael went all seven innings and she tossed a three-hit shutout for the Warriors. She ended the game with 14 strikeouts and just one walk.
Saleah Vivanh-Vong, Des Moines East
Vivanh-Vong placed fourth individually at the 4A girls state golf meet held May 28-29 at the Waverly Golf Course in Waverly.
Vivanh-Vong carded a 5 over round of 145 over 36 holes. She finished eight strokes in back of medalist Camille Wood and runner-up Kylie Wachtl of Cedar Rapids Prairie, who both shot a 3 under 137 (Wood won a playoff for medalist).
Courtney Latham, Des Moines Christian
Latham placed in the top 10 individually at the 3A girls state golf meet held May 28-29 at the Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls.
Latham came in sixth with 9 over 153 over 36 holes during the two days.
Kenley Sanger, Waukee Northwest
Sanger provided elite power at the plate for the 5A No. 1 Waukee Northwest softball team during an 11-0 victory over 4A No. 11 Winterset to open the season on May 28 at Winterset.
Sanger belted three home runs in the game to help the Warriors roll. She finished the game with three runs and seven RBIs.
