Vote for the Register female Athlete of the Week for April 26-May 2

The week of April 26-May 2 saw female spring sports teams and athletes from the Des Moines metro area continue to turn in standout performances.

Area girls track and field teams followed up the Drake Relays with competitive meets as they strive to continue to cut times before state. The 2026 Iowa high school state track and field championships take place from May 21-23 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

It was an exciting week of girls golf and soccer. Athletes from these sports are headed into their final stretch run of the regular season.

Here are the Des Moines Register’s female Athlete of the Week candidates from the Des Moines metro area for the week of April 26-May 2. DesMoinesRegister.com readers vote to determine the winners, who will be announced at the end of the week.

Olivia Ewers, Dallas Center-Grimes

Ewers led the Class 2A No. 3 Dallas Center-Grimes girls soccer team to a 3-1 victory over No. 12 Bondurant-Farrar on May 1 at Grimes.

Ewers took part in all three goals for the Mustangs. She dished out two assists and put one goal into the net herself.

Saleah Vivanh-Vong, Des Moines East

Vivanh-Vong was the individual medalist for the Des Moines East girls golf team during a 191-194 dual loss to Des Moines Roosevelt on April 29 at the Bright Grandview Golf Course in Des Moines.

Vivanh-Vong shot a 2-over par round of 36 over nine holes. She won medalist by four strokes over Roosevelt’s Savannah Song.

Isabelle Book, ADM

Book won the girls 100 and 200-meter dash events for Adel-Desoto-Minburn at the Carlisle Invitational on April 30 in Carlisle.

Book ran the 100 in 12.71 seconds, which ranks as the 11th-fastest time in 3A. The Tiger junior crossed the finish line in the 200 at 25.39, which places her third among 3A runners, according to Varsity Bound.

Aniston Netten, Van Meter

Netten won the girls 100, and she placed second in the 200 at the Dave Tapps Invitational on April 30 in Van Meter.

Netten clocked in at 12.71 in the 100 and 26.52 in the 200. Her times are both ranked 13th in 2A according to Varsity Bound.

Bryn Kenworthy, Valley

Kenworthy helped the 3A No. 2 Valley girls soccer team to a 2-1 victory over No. 3 Ankeny Centennial on April 28 in West Des Moines and a 2-0 win over Urbandale on May 1 at Urbandale.

Kenworthy scored one goal in the win over Centennial. The Tiger freshman had a hand in both goals against Urbandale with one goal and assist apiece.
