The week of April 5-11 saw Ames-area high school boys soccer, track and field, tennis and golf teams and athletes have another big week despite inclement weather interfering with several events.

The Gilbert boys golf team placed third at Pella, and the Tigers fell to Adel-Desoto-Minburn in a dual meet. The Nevada boys placed second at the Nevada Co-ed Invitational golf meet.

Track meets featuring area teams were limited due to the weather, but Ames, Ballard and Gilbert competed at the Jim Duncan Invitational on April 11 in Des Moines.

There were several standout performances by male athletes from the Ames area during the week.

Here are the Ames Tribune male Athlete of the Week nominees for the week of April 5-11. AmesTrib.com readers vote to determine the winner, who will be announced at the end of the week.

Logan Harswick, Gilbert

Harswick scored one goal and helped the Gilbert boys soccer team pull off another shutout during a 4-0 victory over Aplington-Parkersburg on April 10 at Tiger Stadium in Gilbert.

Harswick’s goal came when he followed a free kick by Will Youngberg 25 minutes into the game to give Gilbert a 3-0 lead. He also was outstanding anchoring Gilbert’s back line to help keep the Falcons off the scoreboard.

Elijah Deardorff, Ames

Deardorff helped Ames place fourth in the boys distance medley and seventh in the 4×200-meter relays at the Jim Duncan Invitational track and field meet on April 11 in Des Moines.

Deardorff ran the opening 200 leg on an Ames distance medley team that finished in 3:33.54 to only trail Ankeny, Indianola and Adel-Desoto-Minburn in a loaded field of 29 teams. He ran the second leg on a Little Cyclone 4×200 quartet that ran a 1:30.81 to beat out 23 of the 30 competing teams.

Jamin Colvin, Ballard

Colvin helped Ballard place first in the boys competition at the Nevada Co-Ed Invitational golf meet on April 9 at the Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.

Colvin was the meet medalist after shooting a 4 under round of 68. He beat teammate Alex Weeks by two strokes for the individual title.

Jonathan Bouska, Gilbert

Bouska won medalist for the Gilbert boys golf team during a 294-315 dual loss to Adel-Desoto-Minburn on April 6 at the Ames Golf and Country Club in Ames.

Bouska shot 3 under score of 67 during the 18-hole round to take first on a cold and windy day. He also won medalist at the Pella Invitational by shooting a 1 over 73 at the Bos Landen course in Pella.

Tristen Crabbs, Roland-Story

Crabbs won the open 100 and anchored the Roland-Story boys track team to victory in the 4×200 relay during the Woodward-Granger Invitational on April 10 at Woodward.

Crabbs ran an 11.36 in the 100 to beat the 11.45 effort by Nodaway Valley’s Cassius Burnside for first. He helped the Norsemen run the 4×200 in 1:31.66 to easily beat Prairie City-Monroe’s runner-up time of 1:37.16.
