The week of Feb. 15-21 saw girls basketball teams from the Ames area all participate in regional action.
Ames fell to Class 5A No. 10 Iowa City High, 69-33, the 5A regional semifinals on Feb. 21 in Iowa City. Gilbert defeated Knoxville, 59-21, in the regional quarterfinals on Feb. 18 and then fell at No. 9 Cedar Rapids Xavier in the semifinals, 72-50, on Feb. 21.
Ballard scored a 57-27 victory over Fort Dodge in the regional quarterfinals on Feb. 18, and the Bombers suffered a 43-33 loss to Pella in the semifinals on Feb. 21. Nevada took down Des Moines Hoover by a 64-41 score in the regional quarterfinals on Feb. 18, and then the Cubs fell in the semifinals at No. 8 North Polk, 51-15, score on Feb. 21.
Roland-Story saw its season come to a close with a 52-32 loss at No. 5 Williamsburg in the regional semifinals on Feb. 18.
There were several standout individual performances by Ames-area girls basketball players during the week.

Izzy Terrones, Gilbert
Terrones played a big role in Gilbert’s 59-21 rout of Knoxville on Feb. 18.
Terrones hit 2 of 3 field goals off the bench, including her only attempt from 3-point range, finishing with five points. Despite being an undersized guard, Terrones also managed to pull down seven rebounds, and she chipped in one assist and one steal.
Alea Kinzenbaw, Ballard
Kinzenbaw had an efficient outing for Ballard during its 57-27 win over Fort Dodge on Feb. 18.
She scored 13 points after making 5 of 7 field goals, including 3 of 4 3-pointers. She also tallied two rebounds and two assists.
Emilee Kelly, Nevada
Kelly recorded a double-double to lead Nevada to a 64-41 victory over Des Moines Hoover on Feb. 18.
She finished the game with 22 points after making 8 of 14 field goals and 6 of 7 free throws. She also pulled down 11 rebounds, tallied four steals and dished out three assists.
Riley Johnson, Roland-Story
Johnson gave a gutsy effort for Roland-Story during its 52-32 loss to 3A No. 5 Williamsburg on Feb. 18.
She scored 12 points for the Norse. She also recorded three rebounds, three steals and dished out one assist.
Lauren Sniezek, Gilbert
Sniezek came off the bench to become a force on the boards for Gilbert during its 59-21 win over Knoxville on Feb. 18.
She corralled a team-high eight rebounds for the Tigers during the win. She also scored two points and had one steal.
