Bumble bees are a highly fascinating and misunderstood insect of our ecosystem. In this program we’ll learn what makes them so special and important, then go out to catch and ID some of our local species! Dress to be in the tallgrass prairie. Naturalist will provide bee catching materials.
Full Moon Float

Due to the potential for thunderstorms, the Full Moon Float originally scheduled for this Saturday has been moved to Friday, Aug. 8. See the ponds at the Snyder Tract in a new light, under the light of the full moon! DCCB staff will transport your canoe or kayak back to the ponds, then we’ll experience the magic of floating on still water under the stars together. Adel Sweet Corn Festival
Aug. 8-9 in Adel.
The 46th Annual Adel Sweet Corn Festival will be held on Aug. 8-9. The event kicks off on Friday, Aug. 8 with the husking of the corn starting at 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot at 10th and Prairie, followed by the introduction of the Kernel Kid and family-friendly yard games on the Racoon Valley Bank Stage & Pavilion. A corn dive will be held at 6 p.m. at the Adel Family Aquatic Center. The festivities continue on Saturday, Aug. 9 with a 5k run/walk at 7:30 a.m. The parade will be held at 9:30 a.m., followed by free sweet corn, bags tournament, car show, kids activities, a street party and more. Admission is free, and all are welcome. Bring your family, your friends, and your appetite — and don’t forget a lawn chair or blanket to relax and enjoy the music. Van Meter Yoga in the Park

The Van Meter Parks & Rec Board is partnering with Twisted Yoga 108 to provide Yoga in the Park in the green space between the Legion and the Legion Shelter House at 8:30 a.m. on the following Saturdays: Aug. 9 and 23. The 5th annual Charlie Brewer Memorial Fun Run will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9. You’ve Got a Friend in Me will be giving back to the community since funds have been raised for the scholarship up to his graduating class. In addition to the 1-mile walk or 5K run, the event will feature life-sized board games, carnival basketball, temporary tattoos, raffle prizes and food trucks serving lemonade, tacos and ice cream. The 11th annual Hot Rods & Hogs will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9. Bring your classic cars, street rods, sports cars, all makes and models of domestic and foreign motorcycles and more. Dash plaques will be handed out to the first 100 entries along with peoples choice awards. The event will also feature door prizes, raffles, a DJ and Farm Boys BBQ. Admission is free-will donation for attendees and participants. All proceeds will benefit Volunteer Community Services of Woodward & Granger. Trent Miner Memorial Parent/Child Golf Tournament

The annual Trent Miner Memorial Parent/Child Golf Tournament will return on Sunday, Aug. 10. The first parent/child session (13 years or younger) starts at 10 a.m. with a cost of $20 per person. The second parent/child session (14 years and older) starts at 1 p.m. with a cost of $40 per person. A parent can also be any friend or relative. A meal is included with registration. Silent auction items and raffle prizes will also be available. Proceeds will go to the Trent Miner Scholarship Fund, Make a Wish and CaringBridge.
