Des Moines East girls golfer Saleah Vivanh-Vong and Dowling Catholic boys track and field athlete Jackson Miller were voted the Des Moines Register’s female and male Athlete of the Week winners from the metro area for the week of May 3-9.
Vivanh-Vong won female Athlete of the Week with 57% of the vote.
Vivanh-Vong turned in a dominant performance for the Des Moines East girls golf team during the Dragon Invitational on May 4 at the Jester Park Golf Course in Granger.
Vivanh-Vong was the meet’s individual medalist by an impressive three strokes. She shot a 2-over par round of 74 over 18 holes.
Miller earned male Athlete of the Week honors with 70% of the vote.
Miller ran the third leg on the Dowling Catholic boys 4×100-meter relay team that ran the fastest time in the state so far at the CIML boys track and field meet on May 7 at Waukee.
Dowling won the race in 41.32 seconds to beat their 41.34 time run at the Drake Relays in April. Miller also placed second individually in the open 100 with a time of 10.80.
