Iowa City Regina volleyball player Reese Naeve and Solon football player Tripp Johnson were voted by readers as the Press-Citizen’s Athletes of the Week for Oct. 27- Nov. 1.
Naeve earned girls Athlete of the Week with 74% of the vote.
Naeve had an elite performance in Regina volleyball’s 3-0 sweep (25-23, 26-24, 25-20) over Sumner-Fredericksburg in the Class 2A regional championship on Oct. 29. The Iowa State commit hit a game-high 34 kills with a .395 efficiency. The senior recorded 17 digs and went 7 of 8 when serving the ball.
Johnson earned boys Athlete of the Week with 58% of the vote.
Johnson was a defensive maestro in Solon football’s 31-6 win over Benton in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs on Oct. 31. The senior forced a fumble with a big hit before he notched his second interception of the season against the Bobcats.
