Construction is currently underway for a popular convenience store to add two more facilities to the Ames market.
The rapidly-growing Kwik Star brand is known for its fried chicken, hot meals, baked goods, coffee drinks and grocery store-style aisles.
The newest Ames stores are expected to open later this year at the northeast corner of South Dakota Avenue and Mortensen Road as well as the northeast corner of South Grand Avenue and South 16th Street.
City of Ames site plans show 20 gas pumps at each location along with a convenience store and an attached car wash.
Ames’ only operating Kwik Star is in the Highway 30 corridor at 1910 Isaac Newton Dr.
Kwik Star has another name in some states
Kwik Star is the Iowa name of the La Crosse, Wisconsin-based chain Kwik Trip. Kwik Star name is reportedly used in Iowa to avoid confusion with the similarly-named QuikTrip.
Kwik Trip has more than 900 locations in the Midwest. There are nearly 160 stores in Iowa, with dozens in the Des Moines metro area, including Waukee, Urbandale, Pleasant Hill, Altoona, Ankeny and Polk City.
Hiring is currently underway for all Ames locations. Residents can apply through the “Kwik Careers” tab at kwiktrip.com.
