Don’t criticize Charlie Kirk, but Robert Mueller appears to be fair game
Teachers got fired for saying that they were not saddened Charlie Kirk was dead. Jimmy Kimmel got pulled off the air for days for implying something that was not even that obvious. But the president of the United States can say publicly, “I glad he’s dead,” about Robert Mueller. Why is that statement not incurring any consequences? Apparently, rules are only meant for some of us. In these past months it has seemed that our country has been moving towards the dichotomous stance that the rich and powerful only make the rules; they don’t have to abide by them.

Grassley ignores actual problems for farmers
Iowa’s senior senator, who explicitly declares himself to be an “outspoken advocate for farm families, including Iowa’s pig farmers,” might have chosen a more timely topic to address for this year’s National Agriculture Week rather than rehashing his thoughts on California’s Proposition 12 which went into effect more than two years ago. (“Prop 12 is hogwash ‘government know best’ approach,” March 19).
For example, he might have chosen to talk about the detrimental effect that tariffs (most of which have now been declared to be illegal) have had on our farm economy. Or he might have discussed why China elected not to buy last year’s soybeans from our farmers. Finally, he could have chosen to address the reality that our country’s most recent “excursion” into the Middle East (which cost our country $11.3 billion during its first six days) has already sharply driven up the cost of fuel and fertilizer just before the planting season.
However, not one of those more contemporary topics received either a glance or a nod from Grassley. According to Grassley, the most pressing problem presently undermining Iowa’s pig farmers and jacking up prices for all of us at the grocery store today can and should be laid at the feet the tree-hugging, animal rights folks in California, and never you mind the party presently in the majority in Washington, D.C.

Cystic fibrosis researcher is a real hero
The research done by Dr. Michael Welsh of the University of Iowa on cystic fibrosis is more beneficial to humanity then all the football and basketball championship games ever!
His tenacity to find a solution to this condition is remarkable and should be widely recognized by the general population. We should venerate such efforts as we need solutions to medical conditions more than ever and thus hopefully the wider population should recognize efforts of this magnitude. Congratulations to Dr. Welsh!
