There was no shortage of action in baseball and softball this past week.
Here are the nominees for the Iowa City Press-Citizen’s high school Athletes of the Week for June 9-15. Press-Citizen.com readers vote to decide this week’s winners. Voting closes at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Athletes are listed in alphabetical order by last name.
Girls
Molly Carlson, Jr., Iowa City High
Carlson couldn’t be contained during Iowa City High softball’s 16-6 win over Dubuque Hempstead in game one of a doubleheader on June 10.
The junior Little Hawk went 6-for-6 at the plate and compiled three RBIs. She tallied three hits, two RBIs and a home run during game two.
Laci Chambliss, Sr., Iowa City Regina
Chambliss had a solid game despite Regina softball’s 5-4 loss to Durant on June 9.
The Regina catcher earned two RBIs and a hit during her only time at the plate.
Izzy Frees, Sr., Solon
Frees helped Solon softball earn a 2-0 win over Iowa City Regina on June 10.
The senior third baseman tallied two hits and an RBI against the Regals.
Sadie Hebl, Jr., Clear Creek Amana
Hebl drove in three runs during CCA softball’s 11-10 win over West Delaware on June 9.
Hebl tallied two hits against the Hawks in the second game of a doubleheader. She recorded two hits and an RBI during game one.
Ava Tague, Jr., Iowa City Liberty
Tague powered Iowa City Liberty softball to a 4-3 win over Sioux City East on June 14.
Tague hit a walk-off double to score the winning run.
Boys
Carter Carolan, Soph., Iowa City Regina
Carolan recorded two hits during a 9-4 win over Durant on June 9.
Carolan drove in two runs against the Wildcats.
Eli Nolte, Jr., Iowa City West
Nolte helped Iowa City West baseball earn a 12-2 win over Xavier on June 9.
The junior third baseman tallied two RBIs with a hit against the Saints.
Jaxton Schroeder, Sr., Iowa City High
Schroeder tossed a complete game during Iowa City High baseball’s 4-2 win over Dubuque Senior on June 11.
The senior southpaw threw six strikeouts and limited the Rams to four hits. He also earned a hit at the plate and secured a stolen base.
Nolan Seagren, Sr., Solon
Seagren recorded two RBIs during Solon baseball’s 9-4 win over Mid-Prairie on June 11.
The senior Spartan also tallied three runs and two hits against the Golden Hawks.
Mason Waterbury, Sr., Iowa City Liberty
Waterbury had a solid performance on the mound during Iowa City Liberty baseball’s 5-4 win over Cedar Rapids Kennedy on June 9.
The senior pitcher allowed seven hits but racked up seven strikeouts in a complete game.
