Los Angeles Sparks provide Kate Martin injury update

After exiting Wednesday’s 99-83 loss to Minnesota with a knee injury, the Los Angeles Sparks provided an injury update on former Hawkeye Kate Martin on June 19.

Martin collected just one rebound and took three shots during her brief seven minutes of action against the Lynx on Wednesday before being ruled out with a knee strain by the team’s medical professionals.

“She had a little knee strain. We got it all tested, and now she’s just kind of been returned to play, so she’s wearing the jerseys, you know, non-contact, so she’s day-to-day as well,” said Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts when discussing Martin’s inclusion in the list of injuries that have taken a toll on the team lately.

Fortunately for Martin, the strain does not appear to be inhibiting her ability to practice, and she could be a candidate to be activated to the active roster for the Sparks’ matchup tonight against the New York Liberty at Crypto.com Arena.

It is also important to note that Martin’s Player Development Contract allows her to be activated to the active roster for up to 12 games before a decision must be made on whether to sign her to a standard player contract. Currently, Martin has been activated for 10 of the Sparks’ 15 total games played so far this season.
