Iowa football offers 2028 Hawkeyes legacy offensive lineman

After attending Iowa’s Hawkeye Tailgater event this past week, the program offered 2028 offensive lineman James Barrett, who is the son of Offensive Line coach George Barnett.

The 6-foot-2, 270-pound lineman from Iowa City West High School in Iowa City, Iowa, serves as the team’s center.

Along with Iowa, Barnett currently has two other offers, including Miami (Ohio) and FCS-level South Dakota.

As a sophomore, Barnett helped lead the Trojans to an 8-3 record, including an appearance in the 5A playoffs. He posted 16 tackles, according to Bound.

While the Hawkeyes certainly have an overwhelming advantage in his recruitment, with his father serving as the coach for James’ very position, that does not necessarily mean Iowa is a lock for his commitment.
