Iowa women’s basketball guard shares message to fans after injury

After suffering a potentially serious non-contact knee injury in the first quarter of No. 10 Iowa women’s basketball’s eventual dominant win over No. 11 Ohio State, senior guard Taylor McCabe shared a message to Hawkeye fans for their support.

Unfortunately, on the same day Taylor McCabe suffered her left knee injury, her sister, Peyton, also sustained an injury to her right lower leg during her basketball game for Drake.

“I appreciate everyone reaching out today! I would also appreciate it if everyone would send well wishes and prayers to my sister Peyton, who suffered a severe injury in her Drake basketball game today,” McCabe posted following the game on Sunday.

Taylor McCabe, a 5-foot-9 senior guard from Fremont, Neb., has been averaging 8.5 points per game on 37.8% shooting from the field and 37.4% from 3-point range across 20 starts in 28.5 average minutes per game.

McCabe’s injury occurred during Ohio State’s opening possession in the first quarter. McCabe was immediately carried into the locker room tunnel, with the sold-out Carver-Hawkeye Arena crowd in a concerned silence. McCabe would return to the bench at the start of the second quarter in street clothes and with a heavy ice pack wrapped around her left knee, where the senior was seen receiving hugs and words of affirmation from her Hawkeye teammates.

The Hawkeyes are awaiting an MRI to know the severity of McCabe’s injury.
