Iowa basketball offers 2029 legacy recruit RJ Evans

As Iowa basketball continues its search for future stars on the recruiting trail, Ben McCollum and the Hawkeyes offered 2029 small forward RJ Evans, the son of Iowa legend Reggie Evans.

The 6-foot-5, 165-pound forward from Tampa (Fla.) SLAM has now picked up offers from Iowa, Florida State, North Carolina State, Providence, Florida Atlantic and Sacramento State.

In addition to the Tampa SLAM, Evans also plays on the adidas 3ssb circuit with Austin Rivers Southeast Elite.

Here’s what 247Sports’ Travis Branham has to say about Evans:

“He’s got size, is long, extremely athletic but what separates him is the level of toughness, competitiveness and confidence he plays with on the court. He brings it on both sides of the ball, flies around on defense and disrupts the game, gets downhill, elevates above the rim and shows talent as a three-level scorer.” – Travis Branham, 247Sports

RJ’s father, Reggie, played two seasons at Iowa after beginning his college career at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas. Reggie Evans was a two-time All-Big Ten performer, averaged a double-double each season, and reached 1,000 career points.

Though he was undrafted, Reggie Evans would go on to enjoy a 13-year NBA career with seven teams.

Iowa hopes that it’s rising stature under McCollum and its familial ties can help in its pursuit of 2029 forward RJ Evans.
