Despite extending an offer on June 2, Iowa women’s basketball was left off elite 2027 power forward and center Sydney Mobley’s trimmed list of 12 schools she announced on Oct. 26.
The 6-foot-2, native of Delaware, Ohio, is the nation’s No. 12 overall player, the No. 2 power forward nationally and the No. 1 recruit in Ohio in the 2027 class, per Rivals. Mobley is a five-star recruit on the 247Sports composite, which lists her 20th nationally and fourth among centers.
Interestingly, four of the 12 programs that made Mobley’s final cut are Big Ten members: Ohio State, Michigan State, Maryland and Illinois. The eight others are Kentucky, Florida, South Carolina, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Vanderbilt and North Carolina.
While the Hawkeyes landed five-star forward McKenna Woliczko in the 2026 class and still have their sights set on fellow five-star recruits Addison Bjorn and Jenica Lewis, Iowa is just getting started in 2027.
Fortunately for the Hawkeyes, there is still plenty of time for the program to impress recruits hopefully turn the missed opportunity on Mobley into a blip on the radar.
Iowa’s lone exhibition game is Thursday, Oct. 30 against Ashland at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Hawkeyes open their 2025-26 regular season on Nov. 3 against the Southern Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. CT. Both games will take place at Carver-Hawkeye Arena and will stream on Big Ten Plus (subscription required).
