A Knoxville man was arrested and charged in connection with a drive-by shooting, during which he shot himself in the leg.
The Knoxville Police Department received a report of a person shooting a gun from a car at around 1:50 a.m. May 6, according to a criminal complaint. A witness gave police footage that captured the incident from their Ring doorbell.

A person in the front passenger seat had shot their gun multiple times down the street, which shattered a window on a house, the court documents said.
At around 2:15 a.m., a man entered a local hospital with a gunshot wound, the criminal complaint said. Police spoke to witnesses and confirmed the injured man was the suspect of the drive-by shooting.
No other injuries were reported from the shooting, according to court documents.
The driver of the vehicle told police the injured man was shooting a gun outside the window in a “random act of violence,” the criminal complaint said.
The driver said after four to five shots, the gun negligently discharged, causing the suspect to shoot himself in the leg, court documents said.
Officers reported the suspect had a strong odor of alcohol, bloodshot eyes and thick and slurred speech and admitted to being under the influence of alcohol, court documents said.
The man was charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, reckless use of a firearm, possession or carrying a dangerous weapon while under the influence, and person ineligible to carry a weapon.
