IOWA CITY — Iowa State transfer offensive lineman George Nahas has committed to Iowa football, he announced May 8.
Nahas, who will join the Hawkeyes as a preferred walk-on, has three seasons of college eligibility remaining.
Nahas attended Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines and was regarded as 2-star prospect, according to 247Sports. He reported offers from Southern Illinois, Army, Fordham and Air Force. However, Nahas decided to stay closer to home and join Iowa State as a preferred walk-on in the 2023 high school recruiting class.
After two seasons in the Cyclone program, Nahas elected to enter the transfer portal.
“I would like to start by thanking Coach Clanton, Coach Campbell, JSB and the entire Iowa State coaching staff for a great 2 seasons,” Nahas posted on April 22 via social. “After much thought and consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal with 3 years of eligibility remaining.”

While in the transfer portal, Nahas received offers from UMass, South Dakota State, Southern Illinois, South Dakota and Northern Arizona but decided to stay in-state and play for his former program’s rival as a preferred walk-on.
Nahas is the second offensive line transfer Iowa has picked up during the current cycle. Former Ferris State offensive lineman Bryce George, a three-time Division II national champion, has the potential to make an instant impact for the Hawkeyes in 2025. Even if Nahas doesn’t carve out a meaningful role this upcoming season, he still holds long-term value as someone who could be a building block for the future.
Nahas becomes the sixth transfer-portal commitment Iowa has secured in the spring window. Besides Nahas and George, Iowa is also bringing in long snapper Bryant Worrell (Boston College), quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski (Wake Forest), defensive back Shahid Barros (South Dakota) and defensive back Ty Hudkins (Purdue).
