Iowa football kicker Drew Stevens makes record-tying longest FG vs. Oregon

Despite No. 20 Iowa football’s (6-3, 4-2 Big Ten) dropping a gut-wrenching 18-16 loss to No. 9 Oregon (8-1, 5-1 Big Ten) from a cold and rainy sold-out Kinnick Stadium on Saturday afternoon, senior kicker Drew Stevens tied both a Hawkeyes all-time program and Kinnick Stadium record early in the fourth quarter by converting a lengthy field goal through the adverse weather conditions.

As Stevens’ 58-yard field goal sailed through the uprights with 12:39 remaining in the game to make the score 15-10 in favor of the Ducks at the time, the booming kick tied Iowa’s school record for the longest field goal with Tim Douglas (58 yards at Illinois, 1998) and tied Michigan State’s Jonathan Kimm (58 yards, 2023) as the longest at Kinnick Stadium.

Already the Hawkeyes’ career leader in made field goals (71), the kick vaults Stevens into a tie at No. 7 on the Big Ten’s all-time record list in that category and also extends his program record for field goals converted from 50-plus yards out (12).

At 323 career points (combined PAT and field goals), Stevens is now just one point shy of tying Mike Meyer for second place in career scoring in program history.

Although the Hawkeyes eventually lost on a heartbreaking 39-yard field goal by Oregon’s Atticus Sappington with three seconds remaining, Iowa will look to rebound on Nov. 15 against USC (7-2, 5-1 Big Ten) from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

That game against the Trojans is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. CT in Los Angeles, Calif., and will air on the Big Ten Network.
