College football season is still a few months away, and the story of the year hasn’t even begun to get penned yet, but it is never too early to start dreaming about postseason matchups and what bowl season could look like.
The Iowa Hawkeyes, a mainstay in college football bowl season, figure to be playing in the postseason once again as they so often have done under head coach Kirk Ferentz.
With a revamped offense through the transfer portal, Iowa will look to continue offensive improvements while holding true to its defensive standards. If those hold true, the Hawkeyes figure to be bowling next year.
CBS Sports looked ahead at the bowl season next year and pitted Iowa against a Big 12 foe in its very early bowl projections. The Iowa Hawkeyes are drawing the TCU Horned Frogs in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona, in the initial projections.
If this early prediction holds, it would be just the third meeting between the two programs and the first in over 50 years. The first matchup came on September 27, 1958, and saw TCU beat Iowa by a score of 17-0.
Nearly one decade to the date later, the two met again on September 28, 1968, and Iowa sought revenge with a 28-17 win over the Horned Frogs.
