Iowa football commit receives offer from Big Ten foe

If I had a nickel for every time Michigan offered a linebacker committed to Iowa in the 2026 recruiting class, I would have two nickels. It isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it’s happened twice.

Just one month ago, Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines offered Billy Weivoda, a linebacker who committed to the Hawkeyes’ 2026 recruiting class. Weivoda, a three-star from Alpharetta, Ga., committed to Iowa on June 27. And now he’s not the only Iowa linebacker commit who’s received an offer from Michigan.

Just a few days before Weivoda committed, Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes received a commitment from four-star linebacker Kasen Thomas. The talented linebacker, from Sioux City, Iowa, was a big get for the Hawkeyes. But, Thomas took to X on Monday afternoon to share that he’s now also received an offer from Michigan.

As of now, both Weivoda and Thomas are still committed to Iowa, but that can always change quickly in today’s age of college football. A recruiting battle isn’t truly won until a player is enrolled and on campus. It’ll be up to Iowa to continue efforts to keep Weivoda and Thomas in the 2026 recruiting class.

Iowa currently has 14 commits in its 2026 recruiting class, which is ranked 50th in the entire country, according to 247Sports, and 30th nationally per Rivals.

Weivoda and Thomas are two of three currently-committed linebackers in the 2026 class, joining Julian Manson. That recruiting class will continue to evolve and grow as the football season goes on.
