Iowa football: Bishop Heelan linebacker Kasen Thomas commits to Hawkeyes in 2026 class

IOWA CITY — Class of 2026 linebacker Kasen Thomas has committed to Iowa football.

“I’m Home . Go Hawks,” Thomas announced on social media on June 23.

Thomas is an in-state product from Bishop Heelan Catholic in Sioux City. He is regarded as a 3-star prospect and ranked 488th nationally in the 2026 high school class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

The linebacker’s list of final schools consisted of Nebraska, Iowa State, Arizona and Iowa. He is the No. 5 player in the state of Iowa in the 2026 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Iowa has now landed two of the top five in-state high school prospects in the 2026 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. Offensive lineman Carson Nielsen, who is committed to the Hawkeyes, is ranked second in the state.

As a junior, Thomas racked up 44.5 total tackles, including 5.5 sacks, and intercepted two passes, both of which he returned for touchdowns.

Thomas also had a prolific junior season on offense for Bishop Heelan, rushing for 1,841 yards and 26 touchdowns.

This is the second consecutive day that Iowa has landed a commitment in the 2026 recruiting class. Defensive back Ronnie Hill announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes on June 22.

Thomas becomes the fourth defensive player to commit to Iowa’s 2026 high school recruiting class, which currently has 11 total players. Hill, defensive back Marcello Vitti and defensive lineman Sawyer Jezierski stand as the Hawkeyes’ other pledges on that side of the ball.
