Iowa basketball four-star recruit Ethan Harris officially signs with Hawkeyes

IOWA CITY — Iowa basketball has officially signed its first prospect in the 2026 recruiting class.

Ethan Harris, a product of Camas High School in Washington, has signed a scholarship agreement with the Hawkeyes. Harris, who originally committed to Iowa in September, chose the head coach Ben McCollum’s program over Gonzaga, Washington and Boise State.

Here’s what to know about Harris:

Scouting Ethan Harris

“Super talented. He’s like 6-8, 6-9, very athletic — laterally and vertically. He has a wonderful jump shot. Really can shoot the ball. He’s a big guard … He’s pretty good at a variety of things and he’s very multi-dimensional.” — Andy Harrington, assistant director for Select Basketball.

“I feel like his skillset, he’s pretty complete as far as like a good ball-handler, making great passes, shooting the ball, creating shots for himself.” — Brian Witherspoon, Harris’ interim high school coach last season.

“He does things over the course of a game where you’re like, ‘Yeah, I can’t teach that.’ He, athletically, could just erase a shot or go get a rebound or hit two straight 3s just full-speed. You’re like, ‘All right,’ a guy that is that athletic at that size that can shoot the ball like that, you just can’t take for granted.” — Harrington.

“The anger that he plays with, the motor that he plays with, if he gets a step, he’s going to take your head off. That’s just where his instincts are taking him. He loves to have an opportunity to go up and score. As far as creating his shot, he can shoot pretty much from anywhere on the perimeter — NBA range to right on the 3-point line. He can pull up from anywhere. And he’s got good lift on his shot, too. So, it’s not just a little bunny lift. He gets a pretty good elevation, and he gets up pretty high.” — Witherspoon.

Ben McCollum, Ethan Harris comments

“Ethan is the definition of the type of player we are looking for to build the Hawkeye culture,” McCollum said in a statement. “He’s super competitive, has great versatility, can play a guard position and go inside if need be.  We’re excited about the future with Ethan.”

“I chose the University of Iowa for the coaches, culture and player development,” Harris said in a statement. “When I visited campus, talked with the coaching staff and met the players, I knew it was the perfect fit.”
