North State travelers got some good news as reports suggest that flight cancellations and delays are easing as the federal government shutdown nears an end.
Two San Francisco flights that were canceled since late last week were back on United Airlines’ schedule starting Friday, Nov. 14 at Redding Regional Airport.
Flight 5800 from San Francisco to Redding is scheduled to leave SFO at 4:25 p.m. Flight 5592 to San Francisco is scheduled to depart Redding at 6:28 p.m.
The two flights were still canceled for Thursday, Nov. 13, according to United’s website.
Redding Regional Airport so far has not felt the major impacts that have hit other cities due to the shutdown.
United and Alaska Airlines fly out of Redding.
United offers roundtrip flights to San Francisco, Los Angeles and Denver.
Alaska has a roundtrip flight to Seattle. Redding airport officials said that the Alaska flight has not been canceled during the shutdown.
USA TODAY reported that the percentage of flights required to be cut by the FAA was expected to increase in the coming days, from 8% on Thursday to 10% on Friday.
“As of Wednesday morning, FlightAware data showed more than 880 cancellations and 720 delays for flights within, into, or out of the United States — the lowest number of cancellations since the cuts began. Flight disruptions slightly eased up on Tuesday with 1,264 cancellations after Monday saw over 2,400 cancellations,” according to USA TODAY.
Still, flight disruptions are expected to linger beyond the end of the shutdown.
FAA-mandated flight reductions started Nov. 7.
