With the Thursday night lights shining bright at the University of Iowa Soccer Complex for No. 9 Iowa women’s soccer’s home opener versus No. 7 TCU, numerous members of both Iowa’s men’s and women’s basketball programs were in attendance to show their support for the fellow Hawkeye student-athletes.
The game was also nationally televised on the Big Ten Network, as the top-10 matchup between the Hawkeyes and Horned Frogs was surely expected to provide a classic match, especially after Iowa’s 3-2 victory over No. 6 Arkansas.
One of the most notable attendees was Iowa head men’s basketball coach Ben McCollum, who was seen observing the action outside the sidelines with his wife and daughter.
From the stands, multiple members of the women’s basketball program cheered in support of the Hawkeyes, including guard Callie Levin, Addie Deal, and forward Hannah Stuelke.
Despite Iowa ultimately suffering its first defeat of the season against TCU by a final score of 3-2, the outpouring of support from other athletic programs is something that should be appreciated as the entire Hawkeye community uplifts each other.
Iowa women’s soccer (1-1-0) will return to the pitch on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT against Western Michigan (0-1-0) from the University of Iowa Soccer Complex.
