As the Indiana Fever look to build a championship-level roster around its core of Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, and Aliyah Boston, the franchise is reportedly signing point guard Tyasha Harris in WNBA free agency. The Indy Star’s Chloe Peterson broke the news.
While an official announcement is expected to come on Sunday, Harris will likely serve as the primary backup to former Hawkeye and Fever franchise cornerstone, Caitlin Clark. Terms of the deal were not initially reported.
Harris played college basketball at South Carolina before being drafted with the No. 7 overall pick by the Dallas Wings in the 2020 WNBA draft. After spending three seasons in Dallas, she was traded to the Connecticut Sun ahead of the 2023 season, where she first played under now-Fever coach Stephanie White.
In her two seasons with Connecticut, she first served as the backup point guard in 2023 and then as a starter in 2024. During the 2024 season, Harris started 38 of 39 games, averaging 10.5 points and 3.0 assists, and helped Connecticut reach the WNBA semifinals.
Harris was subsequently traded back to Dallas ahead of last season, but she played only five games due to a season-ending left knee injury in June.
The 5-foot-10 point guard has averaged 6.5 points and 2.6 assists per game, while shooting 41.1% from the field, 38.5% from 3-point range and 75.6% from the free-throw line during her WNBA career thus far. Harris has played in 172 WNBA regular-season games and started 49.
