Former Iowa football TE Luke Lachey claimed off waivers by Packers

After just one season with the Houston Texans, former Iowa football tight end Luke Lachey has been claimed off waivers by the Green Bay Packers.

Lachey, a 2025 7th-round selection (No. 255 overall) by the Texans, was waived on August 26, 2025, as part of final roster cuts and re-signed to the practice squad, where he spent the entire 2025 season.

During his Hawkeyes career, the 6-foot-6, 251-pounder recorded 74 receptions for 893 yards and four touchdowns in his 24 starts across 42 games played from 2020-24. Lachey served as one of Iowa’s permanent team captains during his senior year in the 2024-25 season.

The Packers have been searching for depth at tight end since the end of the 2026 NFL Draft, and Lachey will certainly give Green Bay a high-quality option. The former Hawkeye now joins a tight end group featuring the likes of Tucker Kraft, Luke Musgrave, Josh Whyle, Drake Dabney, Messiah Swinson, and undrafted rookie RJ Maryland.
