Former Iowa basketball star attending key upcoming date

For the first time in more than a decade, an Iowa basketball legend will return to Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

The Haweyes are rolling, winners of six straight Big Ten games and playing their best basketball of the year. They have a couple of huge home games coming up. The 25th-ranked Hawkeyes will host No. 12 Purdue on Saturday, Feb. 14, followed by a massive home tilt with No. 8 Nebraska on Tuesday, Feb. 17. The Hawkeyes could get a big boost against the Cornhuskers when one of the best Hawks of this century returns to Carver.

Aaron White announced on X that he’ll attend the Nebraska game. It is his first appearance at Carver for a game since he graduated in 2015.

White had a stellar four-year career in Iowa City from 2011-15. He played in 140 career games, making 119 starts. He averaged 13.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 51.7% from the field. White was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team and was an All-Big Ten player as a senior after averaging a career-best 16.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

Across his four seasons as a Hawkeye, White helped lead Iowa to 85 wins, two NCAA Tournament appearances and a win in the tournament as a senior. He still holds school records for free throws made (618), free throws attempted (800), true shooting percentage (.611), and win shares (20.6). He’s seventh in school history in career field goals made with 590.

It’ll be great to see one of the best Hawkeyes of this century back in Iowa City and at Carver for a massive game. Maybe he’s the spark that Iowa will feed off to pick up a huge win over one of their biggest rivals.
