Drake men's basketball drops Missouri Valley opener at Murray State

Drake men’s basketball opened the Missouri Valley Conference season with an 81-72 loss at Murray State on Dec. 18.

Senior Jaden Quinn led Drake with 19 points, including 12 in the first half. He added a team-high six assists. Quinn missed the last 5 minutes of the game with a sore ankle; he’s expected to be available for the Bulldogs’ Sunday game at Evansville.

Sophomore Okku Federiko added 17 points and five rebounds. Senior Jaehshon Thomas came off the bench and scored 15 points, with 14 coming in the second half.

Drake suffered its third straight loss and fell to 6-6 overall. The three-game losing streak is the longest by a Drake team since the Bulldogs lost three straight games in the 2021 ESPN Event Invitational in Orlando, Fla.

The Bulldogs also saw their nine-game road winning streak come to an end. It was the second-longest active streak in the nation.
