Des Moines Area Community College finished second at the National Junior College Division II World Series on May 25 in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.
The Bears went 6-2 at the World Series, losing to Pearl City in the championship game. DMACC finished 60-12 and put together a 21-game winning streak along the way.
Dallas Center-Grimes alum Macee Reiling led the Bears with a .449 batting average, 17 home runs and 81 RBIs. Kierra Jungers of Newell-Fonda was 28-7 with a 1.18 ERA in the pitcher’s circle for DMACC.
Simpson softball to World Series
Simpson softball won its Super Regional to advance to this week’s NCAA Division III World Series.
Simpson swept Saint Mary’s 8-3 and 8-5 in Winona, Minn., last week. The Storm reached the Super Regionals after winning the Indianola Regional with two seventh-inning rallies over Saint Benedict.
All-Americans Ashlyn Steen (Mount Vernon) and Megan Heidelbauer (Linn-Mar) lead the Simpson offense. Emma LaFave (West Des Moines Valley) and Marina Cronin (Remsen St. Mary’s) have been outstanding in the pitcher’s circle.
The Storm have an opening-round matchup against Mount Union on May 28 in Salem, Va.
Iowa Central baseball in World Series
Iowa Central is the 7-seed at the National Junior College Division II World Series. The Tritons played in an elimination game May 26 in Enid, Okla.
