A Des Moines man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred in early June in a Clive city park that injured two teens.
Abdalla Hasan, 21, was arrested on July 14 for a June 4 shooting at Campbell Recreation Area in Clive that injured an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, according to a news release from Clive Police Chief Mark Rehberg. Both were struck by gunfire and have since been treated and released from hospital care.
The man had “significant” injuries, according to Rehberg.
An investigation into the shooting found a large group of young adults and juveniles attended a party at the park that was promoted on social media. An altercation occurred, and Hasan produced a handgun and fired shots into a car both victims were sitting in.
Hasan admitted to shooting into the car because he “believed the victim was pointing a handgun at him and claimed that his actions were in self-defense,” according to court filings
Hasan is charged with attempted murder, a Class B felony, and is being held at the Polk County Jail with no bail. No court date has been set.
