The body of an adult Des Moines male was recovered from the Des Moines River after two days of searching.
Around 7:45 p.m. June 30, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office notified the Des Moines Police Department that it received a report from an individual who was out on the water and found a body.
The body is believed to be that of the swimmer who was declared missing on June 28 when authorities rescued a 7-year-old from the river near Principal Park.
Authorities spent the weekend searching for the male who was reportedly in the water with the child.
It’s the second body found in the river recently. First responders were called to the river on June 27 when a dead body was discovered near the East Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway bridge.
Des Moines police are still investigating the incident and will share additional information as it is made available.
