Norwalk girls soccer player Bella Moede and Waukee Northwest boys soccer player Eddie Mihrua were voted the Des Moines Register’s female and male Athlete of the Week winners from the metro area for the week of May 17-23.
Moede earned female Athlete of the Week honors after receiving 52% of the vote.
Moede came up clutch for the Norwalk girls soccer team during its Class 2A No. 1 versus No. 2 showdown against Waverly-Shell Rock on May 15 at Norwalk.
Moede led the No. 2 Warriors to a 1-0 victory over the No. 1 Go-Hawks by scoring the only goal of the game. Her goal came off an assist from Ella Seeley during the first half.
Mihura was voted male Athlete of the Week with 54% of the vote.
Mihura had a huge night for the 4A No. 2 Waukee Northwest boys soccer team during the Wolves’ 6-1 victory over Dowling Catholic on May 15 at Waukee.
Mihura did a hat-trick plus one by putting four goals on the board for the Wolves. He also dished out one assist.
